"The Thing About Snow" by Victoria Parent '24
Art by Mary Rose Corkery '18
In my heart, snow is the best thing in all of creation, and it is by a long shot.
Not because it signals the holidays, being free from school, or it’s natural beauty.
Building snowmen or engaging in snowball fights also have no appeal to me.
It’s that I can simply lie in it, and no one will know, and if they do, they don’t question.
You become one within the dent you’ve created.
It wraps you up like an envelope, blocking out the world.
Those who will spot you in all the white will assume else.
Possibly that you just have a keen interest in snow angels.
Really what I do is I clear my mind.
My focus is the cold nipping at me.
I can go numb, physically and mentally.
Bliss, where nothing can touch me.
The thing about snow.
I drift away.
I want to stay.
Snow everyday?
Not because it signals the holidays, being free from school, or it’s natural beauty.
Building snowmen or engaging in snowball fights also have no appeal to me.
It’s that I can simply lie in it, and no one will know, and if they do, they don’t question.
