Born in a small town, so many years ago
From a teacher, a priest.
Debuted in a church, Lost for years,
then sung again,
In trenches,
A moment of peace,
Surrounded by bodies.
Not a silent night.
Heard in 300 different tongues,
Many miles apart.
There was a Silent Night two hundred years ago.
And there has been one every year since.
