"Seasons of Life"

We are told life passes in seasons
Shown sepia pictures of summers of love Told stories about the winters of discontent which we have overcome What is hard to imagine Is how summer passes to winter in an instant How the trees go from their full green glory To mere sticks held up by the all-encompassing snow How we move from the warm love of the summer months To the cold quiet resentment of winter Love moves to hate in an moment Life becomes death in few silent minutes The light is quenched and darkness rules in the blink of an eye But what happens in this instant? What catalyst brings us to a new world? The answer is subtle We see it truly for a short time, after the summer heat relents but before we are consumed by the long winter Autumn brings change to the world Pulls us 180 degrees Autumn forces upon us new perspectives and challenges So in these seasons of life, In the peaceful summer nights and short winter days of which we reminisce Why do we not care about the change For the destination is nothing without the journey |
