Ode to Procrastination
by Ryan Sullivan '21

I am working on a paper assigned three weeks ago
It is due tomorrow, where the time went, I do not know
I had been optimistic about finishing it on time
But I got distracted for a bit, is that really a crime?
I had marked it on the calendar, hanging over my bed.
For I knew if I turned it in to the teacher late, I’d be dead.
I didn’t purposefully avoid it, I just kind of forgot.
I was too busy playing the new video game I bought.
Today in class the teacher mentioned the due date.
That’s when I realized that I had no more time to wait.
I went right home, took out some paper and a pen.
I worked from three all the way to ten.
I am so grateful that the teacher gave me that warning.
I’m feeling tired, I’ll finish the paper in the morning.
