"Lucy's Magical Christmas Eve" by Meghan Bourque '24
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
Except for little Lucy fidgeting in bed
She was just too excited to lay down her head
She twisted and turned and tried to count sheep
But there was no luck
She just could not sleep
She was wide awake and giddy with glee
As her mind wandered to what her presents might be
Waiting till the morning sounded like such a troubling task
And why not have a peak? She had to ask
So she put on his slippers and went out her door,
Tiptoed down the stairs until she arrived on the first floor
She scurried to the living room with a smile on her face
Envisioning all of the toys that she would soon embrace
She entered the room and who did she see?
Why, it was Old Saint Nick standing there by the tree
A magical energy erupted from his presence
And he had an uplifting and childlike spirit, despite his senescence
He wore a bright red suit and a jolly white beard
And upon his face, a smile appeared
Lucy said “Santa is that really you I see”
And Santa replied “Yes, yes it is me”
“ I have come to your house because you were on the nice list this year”
“And I wanted to reward you with a very special gift my dear ”
Santa said “You will find it in the morning, but now I must go”
Then Lucy cried in protest saying “no, no, no!”
He replied “Do as I say Lucy and go rest your head”
“Why don’t we finish our chat next year instead?”
That sounded great to Lucy so she compromised
And ran back to bed feeling quite satisfied
But before she laid down she glanced out the window ahead
Just in time to see Santa flying on his sled
Santa let out a great big “ Merry Christmas, Ho,Ho, Ho!”
And Lucy whispered back “This is the most magical Christmas I know”
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
Except for little Lucy fidgeting in bed
