“Villain”

Villain
Who is the villain in this story details forgotten
tale too gory
and me begotten
so I tell my tale
I tell it right
when others might fail
to mention a fight
and so here I am
telling to you
the story I can
the story of you too
for my daughter see
this is only temporary
fights will end
gain an enemy or friend
so here it be:
brother to brother
and son to mother
we fought and fought
never stopping when we ought
grew up and never stopped
the fight - never stopped
I am sorry for it now
I don’t know how
it got to that point
so big we thought we were
so who are the villains here?
Am i the villain who was turned away
is he the villain for turning me away
is he the sinner or am I
are we both the sinners under heaven same heaven
same hell
oh no, oh well
he is the villain in my book
and I in his
I am the monster in his children’s stories and he is the righteous in mine
“fair is foul and foul is fair”
oh Macbeth speaks truth
fairness is the reward
the price too high
forgiveness the blade that pierces

through years of hate years of sorrow
oh brother
what happened
i cannot forgive thee
and you refuse to see me
will our children grow up surrounded by hate and anger
oh how sorry that makes me
who is the villain
i left because i didn’t want to fight you
you blamed me for leaving you behind
i left to stop the fighting
the fighting only got worse
now you sit upon a throne of jewels
and me in a corner chair
us the kings of our kingdoms
happy beyond compare
you have advisors and servants
me with friends and merchants
how our lives have changed brother
how much older we have gotten
what do we fight for
what do we fight about
tell me brother
help me understand
oh this story is no story
an apology maybe
but no story
what did we fight about as children
why can’t we have children’s problems
once again
children’s problems i say
hear me now
my plea for your good will
i come to you with an oer
let us be friends
brothers, no, friends first
friends so our children might not grow up to hate as we do
i wish that not upon any one
stop this fighting
stop the anger
come and be a friend
bring this hate to an end.
