Inevitability of the Night
by Grace Chiodo '18
A piercing scream, a darkening sky
all mere signs the raven's come by
He claims a victim night by night,
Then quickly vanishes out of sight.
A feather falling, falling to the floor
This so called demon like that of Poe
haunts the innocent who come and go.
He's watching silently from afar,
Thirsting for blood, his own Northern Star.
A feather falling, falling to the floor
Now precious time will surpass,
Until he comes for you alas.
Tick tock, tick tock—seconds far and few
What is that behind of you?
A feather falling, falling to the floor
Yet even the mighty succumb to fate,
For all impending tombs await.
A featherless corpse rests on the floor,
But death still whispers "forevermore."
