"Cloud Watching" by Jess Ricci '23
Art by Lily Nguyen '19
We lay in the grass, soft hands touching. We watch the clouds go by, feeling the breeze blow over our bodies. Their shirt ripples with the small gusts of wind. We came to watch the clouds, but I cannot seem to focus on the white wonders hanging above us. Their eyes graze the sky, searching for shapes and stories hidden behind the white and blue. Each freckle on their face so carefully placed, I prop up on one elbow to better look at them. Their attention from the sky is
broken and their eyes meet mine. I lean down close and press my lips to their cheek. I am gentle and soft, like the clouds we are watching. I feel their warm skin, how it indents ever so slightly when my lips brush it. I lay my head back down and feel their hand tighten around mine. I realize I am ok to stay here, it is okay to love.
