"Christmas is a New Dawn"
by Megan Pinto '22

Orbs of colorful light break through the darkness
Illuminating the streets with their powerful glow
Houses are bright, full of cheer
Sheltering friends from the cold, bitter snow

Around the fireplace a family sits
Huddled together, close for warmth
Their love for one another triumphs all sorrow
That has plagued them in this joyful month

They mourn the loss of one they loved
A baby boy, so strong and bright
December was his favorite month
Christmas Eve his favorite night

Now, as the family gathers together
To celebrate the holidays, here
They sit in silent remembrance
Of the one they held so dear

And while in quiet grievance
Memories resurface
Their hearts lighten a little
Knowing he did not live without a purpose

A light snow sprinkles the earth
Landing delicately across the lawn
Christmas Eve has passed them by
And Christmas is a new dawn

And all throughout this special holiday
While keeping the Lord near
They laugh and joke and dance and sing
And even shed a tear

For they know that Christmas will never be the same
Not as long as their boy is gone
But they will forever hold him in their hearts
And tomorrow is a new dawn
