"Checkin' It Thrice"
By: Emmitt MacDonald '20

He’s making a list
He’s checking it twice
But have you ever wondered what would happen if he were to check thrice

He goes through the list, many names he’s read before
And as he reads through it, drifts off to a snore
He wakes up in a sweat with a mere million names read
It was two nights before Christmas and face was all red
He checked on his temp and loosened his belt
And much to his amaze… a fever, 112

He had to read these names, but he also needed rest
Bouncing back and forth like his belly to his chest
He made a decision he would read all the names
But only a mere skim, much to our amaze
After only 4 hours his work had been finished
Over a billion names, work not to be diminished

The night before Christmas is the day it was now
Santa was shocked, closely wondered, wondered how
After only four hours of work he should’ve been okay
But alas it was 12! Now off to his sleigh

Because while santa slept for “four hours” or so he thought
Mrs. Claus saved Christmas and read quite a lot
She had gone through all the names while he slept a full twelve hour night
“Two times is probably enough, because all of these kids seem alright”

Santa made this list, and read through it twice
But I guess Mrs. Claus took a gander when it had to be thrice
